Amvets New State Commander

AMVETS (American Veterans) Florida Department held its June convention at the Rosen Centre in Orlando, Florida and elected Terry Corson as its new state commander. Corson, a retired colonel from the Wisconsin Army National Guard has held many positions in the AMVETS organization including post 312 Commander in North Port, FL and Florida department 1st Vice Commander. The Florida Department of AMVETS is the second largest department in the national AMVETS organization. The department has 80 posts with over 18,000 veteran members. The combined Florida AMVETS Family with the 63 Ladies Auxiliaries, 56 Sons squadrons, 26 Riders chapters, Sad Sacks and Juniors results in results in over 27,812 working on behalf of veterans, current military and local communities. AMVETS federal charter was signed by President Harry S Truman July 23, 1947. AMVETS membership is available to any veteran with an Honorable Discharge regardless of where they served or when they served and current members of the military. Current or former members of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard are welcome. The AMVETS organization is working at both the state and national level on legislative issues that relate to current military, veterans and their families.

Open 7 days 12:00-9:00 pm. Kitchen hours 12:00-7:00 pm. *WEDNESDAYS – 50 cents Wings, all day; 11:00 am to 12:00 pm noon, veterans and local residents in need can pick up food from our FOOD BANK (supported by Sons of AmVets and Ladies Auxiliary); then BINGO with POWERBALL at 5:00 pm. *THURSDAYS – Weekly DRAWING at 5:00 pm (80% goes to winner; must be present and signed- in to win) 5:00 pm (until close) is LADIES’ NIGHT, with specials, Sons of AmVets monthly meeting at 5:00 pm, and AmVets Riders monthly meeting at 6:00 pm. *RED SHIRT FRIDAYS – WEAR a Red Shirt, bring two non- perishable food items for our Food Bank, and your SECOND DRINK is FREE; PLAY Show Me the Money at 6:00 pm. *SATURDAY – PLAY Double-Bonus Show Me the Money at 6:00 pm. *SUNDAY (July 9) – BREAKFAST served 9:00-11:00 am; musical entertainment 4:30-7:30 pm Queen of Hearts DRAWING at 6:15 pm. MON- DAYS – BOWLING at 6:00 pm. TACO TUESDAYS – drink special all day and BINGO with POWERBALL at 5:00 pm.

If you are a veteran or local resident in need, we can help. On WEDNESDAYS, we have FOOD, available for pickup, at the Post on betweem 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. The AMVETS FOOD BANK is supported by the Sons of AmVets and LadiesAuxiliary.
