Area Police Beat

Dennis Brian Klassen, 60, Floral City, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 26, charged with battery of a person 65 years of age or older, a first degree misdemeanor reclassified to a third degree felony ($2,000 bond). The report stated, that during an argument between the victim and Mr. Klassen over Mr. Klassen borrowing the victim’s lawnmower without permission, Klassen shoved the elderly victim onto the ground, scraping his elbows. Mr. KLassen, the victim, and two witnesses gave the same account of the incident. The arrest report stated that both the victim’s elbows were bandaged, he had blood marks on his shorts, and told the deputy that his back was also hurt.

Kevin Joseph Miles, 39, Hernando, FL, who was already incarcerated at the Citrus County Detention Facility, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 26, charged with grand theft ($300 or more, but less than $5,000), and burglary of an unoccupied residence. His bond was set at $12,000. Miles is accused of breaking into a S. Adams St., Beverly Hills residence, around March 31, and taking a safe, a camera and medication. The perpetrator made entry into the home by breaking a rear door window, cutting himself and leaving “a blood trail” inside the residence, according to the report. The CCSO was informed by the FDLE on June 23 that the DNA found at the burglary scene matched Miles.’  Jarlene White, 31, Floral City, who was already in custody at the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 26, on a Polk County warrant for criminal use of personal identification information, scheme to defraud, and grand theft ($300 or more, but less than $5,000). Her bond was set at $3,000.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office issued a Sexual Predator Notification, June 27, for Robert Howell Criswell, Jr., 50, who now resides at 2918 N. Eisenhower Ave. in Hernando, FL. He is 6’2″ tall, weighs 300 lbs. with curly brown hair and blue eyes. His offense was 2 counts of sexual battery to a victim under the age of 12. Criswell is not on probation. His conditions upon release are to not loiter in a park, daycare, school or other place where children congregate.

Jennifer Lynn Frye, 38, Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 27, on a Citrus County warrant for driving under the influence with impairment 0.15 or greater than on her first offense with a person less than 18 years of age ($1,000 bond).

Christopher Lee Gleason, 45, Spring Hill, FL, and Tammy Lee Patton, 41, Brooksville, FL, were each arrested at the Hernando County Jail by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 27, each on a Citrus County warrant for felony petit theft (2 or more convictions of any theft). Their bonds were each set at $2,000.

Tiffany Ann Rowthorn, 32, Lecanto, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 27, charged with retail petit theft (value more than $100, but less than $300). Her bond was set at $1,000. Jennifer Lynn Garzone, 39, Inverness, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 28, charged with misdemeanor battery ($1,000 bond).

Mary L. Taylor, 33, Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 28, charged with misdemeanor battery ($1,000 bond). She’s accused of hitting the victim approximately four times on the back of her neck during a physical altercation at bar located in the Golden Eagle shopping plaza, located at 3285 S. Suncoast Blvd. (US 19) in Homosassa.

William Francis Vanselow, III, 29, Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 28, charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation. Vanselow was also charged with violation of probation.

Douglas Leroy Veltman, 51, Floral City,  was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 28, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill ($2,000 bond). Sabra

LeAnn Warner, 26, Hernando, FL,  was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 28, charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (15 Tramadol 15 mg. pills). Her bond was set at $2,000. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop in Beverly Hills at the intersection of N. Florida Ave. and CR 491. The arrest placed Ms. Warner in violation of her Citrus County probation for child abuse (no bond).

Kenneth McClellen Adkins, 33, Homosassa,  was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, charged with driving while license suspended or revoked as an habitual traffic offender (bond unknown) and failing to stop or fleeing a law enforcement officer after being ordered to stop ($2,000 bond).

Sean Richard Bockius, 38, Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, charged with possession of a controlled substance ($2,000 bond). Cody John Brunner, 25, Inglis, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, on a Levy County warrant for grand theft of an auto. His bond was set at $15,000.

Chris Casey Bryant, 25, homeless in the Inverness area, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, on a Marion County warrant for trafficking or endeavoring to traffic in stolen property, and petit theft ($100 or more, but less than $300). His bond was set at $5,500.

Richard Albert Jager, III, 48, formerly of Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), June 29, charged with (being a) sex offender and failing to report to the sheriff’s office within 48 hours of vacating or relocating his residence ($5,000 bond). On a verification check at Jager’s known address of 2 Dahlia Ct. S., Homosassa on June 25, deputies learned that he’d vacated the residence in Feb. 2017. Jager was listed as an absconded sex offender with the FDLE (FL Dept. of Law Enforcement). On June 29, Jager contacted the CCSO on phone, to inform deputies that he was on his way to Citrus County from Pinellas County to turn himself in on the charge. He met with deputies at the intersection of US 19 and US 98 in Homosassa. He was additionally arrested on a Michigan felony warrant for failure to pay child support, with a cash only bond of $17,286, with nationwide extradition.

Beverly Ann Massey, 40, Inverness, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, on a Citrus County warrant for grand theft ($300 or more, but less than $5,000). Her bond was set at $2,000.

Luciano Rosario Mele, 56, Beverly Hills, FL,  was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, charged with misdemeanor petit theft (value less than $100). Her bond was set at $500. James

Thomas Simons, 29, Dade City, FL, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 29, charged with grand theft ($300 or more, but less than $5,000)   Following a traffic stop at Crown Court (109 N. Seminole Ave., Inverness), June 29, due to a muffler problem and the driver not wearing a seatbelt, two people were arrested on drug charges. The vehicle was searched, and drug items were found, after the deputy saw driver Wesley Wade Turner, 28, Inverness, attempting to conceal a plastic baggie from his wallet while retrieving his identification. Turner was charged with possession of a controlled substance (12 oxycodone 30 mg. tablets) and possession of several items of drug paraphernalia; his bond was set at $3,000. Passenger Ashley Marie Baxter, 22, Inverness, who also appeared to be attempting to conceal something down the back of her shorts, the report stated, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (1 oxycodone 30 mg. tablet), and possession of drug paraphernalia (a shortened straw); her bond was set at $3,000. Two people were arrested in Homosassa, June 30, following a traffic stop at the intersection of S. Glenn Acres Ter. and W. Meadow St. in Homosassa, due to the driver, Jessica Marie Albury, 24, Georgetown, KY, failing to use a traffic signal and stopping with the nose of her vehicle in the intersection. The vehicle was searched and drug items were found. Ms. Albury was charged with possession of a controlled substance (0.10 gm. methamphetamine), driving while license suspended or revoked knowingly, and possession of drug paraphernalia (pipe with methamphetamine residue, pipe with marijuana residue, rolling papers, and a scale with methamphetamine and marijuana residue); her bond was set at $4,000. Passenger Taiwan Bacome, 41, Inverness, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (0.10 gm. methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia (2 syringes); his bond was set at $3,000.

Robert Elmer Simon, Jr., 45, Crystal River, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, June 26, charged with resisting an officer with violence and battery of a law enforcement officer ($15,000 bond). The report stated that deputies were dispatched to a N. Elm Dr., Crystal River residence due to the report of a man cutting himself on the abdomen. When deputies arrived, Mr. Simon denied having self-inflicted the three wounds noted to his lower abdomen. A witness showed deputies a knife, and told deputies that Mr. Simon had cut himself with it. Mr. Simon agreed to allow EMS to the scene, “Just to clean me up,” the report quoted him as saying, but when EMS arrived on scene, he refused medical treatment. When deputies attempted to take him into custody, Mr. Simon fought them, the report stated. He kicked one deputy on the right foot and leg and another deputy on his knee. The report stated that Simon also attempted to head-butt the deputies, but when they threatened to subdue him with a taser, he complied. When Mr. Simon complained that his head and back were hurting, Levy County medics responded to the location and medically cleared him. Mr. Simon then told the deputies, that if he could fight them one-on-one, he would “beat their a$$.” He was then transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto.
