2003 LCSO cold case resolved with man’s arrest

Investigators with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) resolved a ‘Cold Case’ crime, last week, 14 years and 4 days after the warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest! The allegations against Nathan Nixon were reported to the agency on July 8, 2003, and involved the sexual abuse of a minor.

The then-9 year-old victim told investigators, that over a period of several weeks, a person whom she trusted the most, did sexual things to her that she said were difficult for her to talk about, because they were “gross.”

Based upon the statements this child made to LCSO investigators, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) and the UF Child Protection Team, the sheriff’s office filed charges of capital sexual battery against Nathan Nixon, of Williston, now age 54. Levy County Court officials immediately issued a warrant for Nixon’s arrest. However, the case went cold shortly after the warrant was issued because Nixon disappeared. No leads were developed, and investigators found no information to help them locate Nixon between 2003 to 2014.

In 2014, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office submitted Nixon’s warrant to the U.S. Marshals Service through its connection with the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. With the assistance of the two agencies, investigators were able to ramp up their investigation. Information was gleaned that led investigators to believe that Nixon had fled from the United States into Mexico. The Mexican government located Nixon and deported him back to the United States on Sat., June 24, 2017. Nixon was taken into custody and held, awaiting extradition back to Florida. Nixon was transported back to Levy County on July 12, 2017. He is being held at the Levy County Detention Facility on a three million dollar bond, plus an additional cash-only bond of $350 for non-support, dating back to 2003.
