LCSO revving up drug enforcement efforts in Levy County

First target: Cedar Key

During Wed. through Sun., Aug. 2 through 6, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug enforcement interdiction in the area of Rosewood and Cedar Key, the result of numerous complaints by residents of recent drug activity in the area.

On Aug. 2, a duo was arrested during a traffic stop on SR 24. Chad Matthew Hammock, 39, Cedar Key, was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia ($26,500 bond).
Heather Woods, 25, Cedar Key, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigators also seized 4 grams of methamphetamine (ICE) and 10.5 grams of marijuana during the traffic stop. The investigation related to these narcotics is still ongoing, and additional charges may be filed, according to the press release

K-9 Sgt. Kinik and his K-9 partner Zombie, conducted a traffic stop in Rosewood, and located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The driver was released on the scene after being issued a Notice to Appear in court for the two misdemeanor drug violations.

Matthew Whyte, 26, who told deputies he’s homeless, was arrested while parked at the Cedar Key State Preserve on SR 24, charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. DTF investigators also located homemade objects in Whyteís car that appeared to have been designed to conceal and transport narcotics. This investigation is still on-going, and additional charges could be filed in this case, as well, according to the press release.

During a traffic stop by Sgt. Kinik on SW 69th St. in Rosewood, Charles Henry Haven, 25, Cedar Key, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia after Dep. Garboski, with his K-9 partner Molly, discovered approximately 0.5 gram methamphetamine (“ICE”) and a pipe used to smoke it ($12,500 bond).

During a traffic stop at the Dollar General store in Rosewood, Shaune Cherry, 35, Ceday Key, was found to be in possession of 3 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia ($15,000 bond)

During a traffic stop of Robert Christopher Cherry, 18, of Mount Holly, NC, by Sgt. Kinik, in front of Robinson’s Seafood in Cedar Key, Deputy Garboski with his K-9 partner Molly located less than 20 grams of marijuana ($1,000 bond) and drug paraphernalia (bond “release on his own recognizance”) inside the vehicle.

During a traffic stop in Cedar Key, Cassandra Brettel, 22, Bronson, was issued a Notice to Appear in court (and then released on scene) for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after Dep Garboski and his K-9 partner Molly, discovered the drug during a search of her vehicle.

Matthew Tysinger, 24, Cedar Key, charged with possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia (he was released on his own recognizance).

Sheriff McCallum has allocated additional units to continue these drug enforcement operations in this and other communities within Levy County.

ìI will continue efforts to rid our neighborhoods of the drug dealers and drug users, as we strive to provide a safer environment for our children and families,î said Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum.
